Downtown Construction and Projects

We know that getting around downtown changes regularly. We also know that you want to stay informed about improvements to downtown. We’ll let you know what’s happening and keep you up to date on how to stay “on the go!”


Schuster Parkway Bridge – The City of Tacoma will close the Schuster Parkway Bridge (located near North 30th and McCarver streets) starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, and is expected to last one month.

I-5 HOV Project – Local Bridge Closures – Pacific Avenue bridge will be closed and rebuilt starting fall 2014, and then the process will be repeated with McKinley Way bridge. Entire project expected to take 3 years.

Tacoma Avenue South – Bridge Closure – the Tacoma Avenue South Bridge (located between Center and Delin streets) will be closed to all traffic from late February 2015 until late spring 2016 for partial reconstruction.

Sound Transit’s Tacoma Link Expansion – Preferred alignment selected, station locations and environmental review underway.

Tacoma Trestle – Under environmental review in 2013, construction begins 2016, estimated completion 2017.

Prairie Line Trail (City of Tacoma portion) – Final conceptual design complete 2013, application for funding submitted.

Flume Line Trail – Currently in planning in design, estimated start of construction is March 2016.

Schuster Parkway Corridor Project – Early planning, design alternatives and traffic analysis.

Flume Line Trail (Phase II) – Completed in April 2015.

Prairie Line Trail (UW Tacoma portion) – Completed fall 2014.

Mobility Master Plan 13 Miles of Bikeways – Completed in fall 2014!

Pacific Avenue Streetscape Project – Complete! Bike racks installed.

Murray Morgan Bridge Project – Completed February 2013. Elevator runs from 11th down to Dock St.

Sound Transit Sounder Train to Lakewood –  Open and running!

Stadium Way – Open and available!
