Downtown commuters find it hard to ditch their cars because they need a vehicle for work or personal trips during the day. Car sharing can help!
When it comes down to it, our cars have become our vehicle of escape and our security blanket. With car sharing, we no longer need our own cars nearby to maintain that sense of freedom and security.
Car sharing is an alternative to car ownership. As a member, you have access to a car sharing company’s fleet of vehicles. Members reserve the cars and pay an hourly rate for use. Companies can also purchase memberships for their employees and use these cars in lieu of a fleet.
Downtown Tacoma wants to share its cars with you!
Cars can be reserved for an hour or a day, and you can choose from hundreds of vehicles in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond and Tacoma. Reservations can be made online or with your smart phone when you need a car. Your very own smart card or key fob unlocks the car, and then you pay as you go at an hourly rate. Every reservation includes gas, insurance, and 180 miles per day. The best part is that your membership is good in hundreds of cities around the world.
Zipcar offers self-service car sharing in multiple Tacoma locations including six cars downtown at UW Tacoma, 11th & Pacific Ave, and 4th & St. Helens Ave. There are also two cars on each of the PLU and UPS campuses.
Peers can share cars, too!
Peer-to-peer car sharing is made easy, safe, and secure with Relayrides. List your car for rent when you’re not using it, or easily borrow a car from someone in your neighborhood!
