The Walk Around the World campaign encouraged the community to walk for transportation and fitness and log their walking trips to be part of the 24,859 mile walking challenge.

Car Sharing

Downtown commuters find it hard to ditch their cars because they need a vehicle for work or personal trips during the day. Car sharing can help!

When it comes down to it, our cars have become our vehicle of escape and our security blanket. With car sharing, we no longer need our own cars nearby to maintain that sense of freedom and security.

Tacoma wants to share its cars with you!

Car sharing is an alternative to car ownership. When you join, you have access to a car sharing company’s fleet of vehicles. Members reserve the cars and pay an hourly rate for use. Companies can also purchase memberships for their employees and use these cars in lieu of a fleet.

Zipcar offers self-service car sharing at two Tacoma locations: Downtown at 17th & Pacific Ave by the University of Washington Tacoma and in North Tacoma on the University of Puget Sound campus.

Cars can be reserved for an hour or even days at a time. Reservations can be made online or with your smart phone. Just swipe your personal Zipcard to unlock the car and get rolling with gas, insurance, and 180 miles per day included with each reservation. Zipcars are available in towns, cities, universities and airports around the world.

Uber is a great way to get around without your car! Uber operates entirely on a smart phone app so you don’t need cash, and you can find a car any time of day. Download the app, and find a car in your area! Use the Downtown On the Go code (DOTG17) to get your first ride free.

Lyft is a great way to get around without your car! Just download the app, and a car and driver will be at your doorstep in minutes.

Relayrides makes peer-to-peer car sharing easy, safe, and secureList your car for rent when you’re not using it or borrow a car from someone in your neighborhood!
